Doosan Enerbility has been selected as a strategic manufacturing partner for key components in small modular reactor projects being developed by Rolls-Royce SMR.

According to Doosan on Wednesday, the company will conduct manufacturability reviews for major reactor components to be used in SMR projects planned in the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.

The collaboration covers the Wylfa SMR project in the UK and the Temelin SMR project in the Czech Republic.

In April, Rolls-Royce SMR signed a contract with Great British Energy - Nuclear to begin site-specific design work for three SMRs planned for the Wylfa site.

In the Czech Republic, the company also signed a construction preparation agreement with ČEZ Group and is currently carrying out site licensing procedures and preliminary design work for the Temelin project.

Rolls-Royce SMR, established in 2021, is developing a 470-megawatt-class SMR design capable of providing stable baseload electricity for at least 60 years. Its largest shareholder is Rolls-Royce Holdings.

Kim Jong-doo, president of the Nuclear Business Group at Doosan Enerbility, said the partnership would serve as an important opportunity for the company to expand its role in the global SMR supply chain.

He added that Doosan would actively support Rolls-Royce SMR projects based on its accumulated experience and technological capabilities in manufacturing major nuclear power plant equipment.
