The Korean film The Man Who Lives with the King has surpassed 15 million viewers, continuing its remarkable box office momentum and closing in on second place in all-time ticket sales.

According to distributor Showbox on Wednesday, the film exceeded the 15 million mark on its 50th day since release. After premiering on Feb. 4, it crossed 10 million viewers on March 6 and 14 million on March 20, maintaining steady growth.

Over the weekend of March 20–22, the film overtook major hits such as Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (14.41 million viewers) and Ode to My Father (14.25 million viewers), climbing to third place on the all-time box office list.

It is now about 1.2 million viewers behind the second-place film Extreme Job (16.26 million), raising the possibility that it could move up in the rankings as early as this weekend.

The film tells the story of King Danjong of the Joseon Dynasty spending his final days in exile alongside village chief Eom Heung-do and local residents. Blending historical fact with fictional elements, the film has resonated with audiences, supported by performances from actors Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon and Yoo Ji-tae.

Its commercial success is also reflected in revenue figures. As of Tuesday, the film had generated cumulative sales of 144.1 billion won, the highest among domestic releases.

Industry observers say the film demonstrates that audiences are willing to return to theaters when high-quality content is available, raising expectations for a broader recovery in the cinema market if a steady supply of strong films continues.
