‘The Man Who Lives with the King’ star joins fantasy military series

Actor Park Ji-hoon, who gained attention for portraying King Danjong in the hit historical film The Man Who Lives with the King, has been cast in the upcoming TVING original drama The Legendary Cook Soldier.

The news was shared by the web novel’s original author J. Robin on the social media platform Threads, where the writer expressed excitement about the casting.

“I must have used up all my luck in life. He looks like he stepped right out of the novel’s cover. I’m really looking forward to his acting,” the author wrote, praising Park and raising expectations for the adaptation.

Fantasy drama set in the military

In the series, Park will play Kang Sung-jae, a private who transfers to Gangrim outpost and serves as a cook soldier.

The story follows Kang after he encounters a mysterious virtual quest system during his military service. The drama combines the realistic setting of the military with game-like fantasy elements.

International premiere ahead of release

The Legendary Cook Soldier is scheduled to premiere on TVING in the first half of this year.

Even before its official release, the series has drawn international attention. It has been selected for a special non-competition screening at the Series Mania Festival in Lille, France, which will take place from April 20 to 27.

‘The Man Who Lives with the King’ nears 10 million viewers

Meanwhile, Park’s recent film The Man Who Lives with the King continues to perform strongly at the box office.

According to the Korean Film Council’s ticketing database, the movie had recorded 9,213,368 cumulative admissions as of March 3, approaching the 10 million viewer milestone.
