Netflix’s animated hit K-pop Demon Hunters and director Park Chan-wook’s latest film No Other Choice have been nominated in major categories at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, raising expectations that Korean content could write a new chapter in the ceremony’s history.

According to industry sources on Jan. 11, the awards ceremony, set to take place on Jan. 12 (Korean time) in Los Angeles, will spotlight two Korean productions competing in animation and film categories, respectively.

K-pop Demon Hunters, which sparked a global phenomenon last year, earned nominations for Best Animated Feature, Best Original Song, and the Box Office Achievement Award. After winning two awards at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards, the film is widely seen as having proven both critical acclaim and box-office appeal. Analysts credit its success to a winning blend of K-pop and occult world-building, as well as a female-hero–centered narrative tailored to global audience tastes.

No Other Choice, Park’s new feature, was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Actor. Lead actor Lee Byung-hun is up for Best Actor, competing against Hollywood heavyweights such as Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney.

Korean content has previously left a strong mark at the Golden Globes. Parasite won Best Foreign Language Film in 2020, showcasing the global potential of Korean cinema, while Squid Game actor Oh Young-soo took home Best Supporting Actor in 2022, symbolizing the worldwide rise of Korean television.

With two high-profile nominations this year, attention is focused on whether another Korean winner will emerge to continue that legacy at the Golden Globes.
