A delegation from the Institute for Korean Studies at George Washington University (GWU), a private research university based in Washington, D.C., visited the headquarters of Asia Today in Yeouido, Seoul, on May 26 as part of its 2025 Summer Abroad Program.
The group, led by Professor Yonho Kim, associate director of the institute, included undergraduate students, program managers, and local coordinators. The visit to AsiaToday was one of the key activities in their educational tour of South Korea.
In a welcoming address, AsiaToday Chairman Woo Jong-soon remarked, “It is only natural that George Washington University is emerging as a new hub for Korean studies. I understand that the university’s Korean studies program began with a professorship sponsored by the Korea Foundation and was formally launched in October 2016. One of its core initiatives has been providing students the opportunity to visit Korea.”
The GWU Summer Abroad Program runs from May 25 to July 7 this year and explores four major themes: Korean identity, culture, division, and unification. The curriculum includes readings, discussions, guest lectures, and site visits to deepen participants’ understanding of Korea’s history and contemporary society.
