The South Korean animated film The King of Kings has surpassed the box office earnings of Parasite in North America just 17 days after its release.

According to its production company Mofac Studio on April 28, The King of Kings recorded a cumulative revenue of $54.51 million (approximately 78.7 billion won) as of 1:09 a.m. on April 27 (Pacific Time), overtaking Parasite's final North American gross of $53.84 million (about 77.8 billion won).

Parasite, which opened in North America on October 11, 2019, amassed its earnings steadily over a period of 62 weeks, including a re-release in IMAX theaters in February this year. In contrast, The King of Kings, released on April 11, achieved similar figures in less than three weeks, showcasing its rapid box office momentum.

Directed and written by Jang Sung-ho, CEO of the computer graphics (CG) and visual effects (VFX) company Mofac Studio, and co-produced with cinematographer Kim Woo-hyung, The king of Kings is based on Charles Dickens' The Life of Our Lord. The film follows the journey of Jesus from birth to resurrection. Hollywood stars such as Oscar Isaac, Pierce Brosnan, and Uma Thurman also lent their voices to the animated feature.
