On April 2, IU, the acclaimed singer and actress, shared her thoughts on the recently concluded Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines during a press event in Seoul. She expressed a deep connection to her characters, Ae-soon and Geum-myung, stating, "I don't want to let go of Ae-soon and Geum-myung."

Three years ago, IU met with writer Lim Sang-choon to discuss the project, even before its official production confirmation. She recalled, "I met writer Lim without informing my agency and promised to participate unconditionally, regardless of the production schedule."

When Life Gives You Tangerines portrays the adventurous lives and love story of Ae-soon (played by IU and Moon So-ri) and Gwan-shik (played by Park Bo-gum and Park Hae-joon) across four seasons. Since its final episodes were released on March 28, the series has garnered over six million views, ranking third in Netflix's global non-English TV series category.

Reflecting on her dual roles as young Ae-soon and her daughter Geum-myung, IU noted similarities between the characters and herself, such as their ambitious and competitive nature. She mentioned that while certain scenes, like childbirth and prolonged crying sequences, were physically demanding, the detailed script kept her motivated.

IU also highlighted the significance of the series in depicting the narratives of women across generations, from Ae-soon to her daughter and granddaughter. She expressed pride in being part of a project that authentically portrays women's stories.

Looking ahead, IU is set to begin filming her next project, Wife of a 21st Century Prince, (working title) alongside actor Byun Woo-seok. However, she intends to savor the lingering emotions from When Life Gives You Tangerines a bit longer, stating, "Today, I'll remain as Ae-soon, and from tomorrow, I'll live as the character from Wife of a 21st Century Prince."
