While EXO's Tao is being embroiled in withdrawal rumors, SM Entertainment made an official response to this.
On April 23, SM Entertainment released an official statement, saying, "The company has been in the process of consistently discussing with Tao and his father regarding his various promotions in China, so we see it as a pity that such message has been posted. Despite that, the company will search for a progressive way through conversion with Tao and his father."
Previously, Tao's father wrote on Weibo on the 22nd, "I'm Huang Zitao's father. I'm writing this with very heartbroken and complicated feelings. I know that my decision may hurt many people and even to my son Tao. I tried to persuade him earnestly, but Tao doesn't seem to understand this selfish father. I know how much Tao loves his team and his activities, so it was a hard decision for me to bring Tao from Korea."
He continued, "But, as his father, I'm responsible to raise Tao healthy and happy. That's why I can't stand to see Tao hurt or be in pain any longer. If I have to choose between Tao living as an idol in Korea and Tao's health, I will choose Tao's health without hesitation.
I want to say sorry and thank you to the company and the EXO members. I'm truly thankful for taking care of Tao the past 3 years, for the members treating Tao well. At the same time, I deeply apologize to the fans who have given my son Tao much love and interest and for hurting EXO fans. I hope you understand that I'm a father who has to do this. I'm sorry."
Meanwhile, a Chinese media reported that Tao's father requested the cancellation of his contract from his agency SM Entertainment. Responding to this, SM Entertainment denied the rumors, stating, "Tao's withdrawal rumors are groundless."
