Actress Lee Young-ae will be making a comeback with drama "Saimdang, the Herstory" after a long hiatus of 11 years.

On March 25, drama production company Group Eight stated, "Lee Young-ae has confirmed to appear in drama 'Saimdang'. We will officially start production in order to air early next year."

"Saimdang" reinterprets the story of genius artist Shin Saimdang of the Joseon Dynasty.

Lee Young-ae will play the role of both an art professor from the modern ages and Shin Saimdang. The professor will be trying to discover the mystery behind Saimdang's diary and a mysterious painting as the plot goes back and forth from the past to the present.

The drama production company said, "Since the beginning of the drama planning, we had Lee Young-ae in mind for the role of Shin Saimdang because we thought Lee Young-ae's elegant and sophisticated image fit perfectly to the character. We are already excited to see how Lee Young-ae will interpret Saimdang in her own way."

The company added, "We are preparing for pre-production with the aim to air early next year. We are receiving calls from media representatives in China and Japan immediately after announcing Lee Young-ae's participation. We are also reviewing to air simultaneously in China."

"Saimdang" will be penned by Park Eun-ryung, who wrote "The Woman Living Across the Street", "Second Proposal", and "Saving Mrs. Go Bong Shil." Filming for the drama will begin in June.
