On September 2, Saenuri Party's lawmaker Park Dae-Chul pointed out that large portals like Naver that are abusing their monopolistic position, should make an effort to reform their own system for the sake of creative economy and economic democratization.
In an interview with AsiaToday at the National Assembly Hall, lawmaker Park said that web portals should make an effort to purify themselves for fair media function and protection of smaller online firms.
Back on August 23, Park proposed amendments to the newspaper promotion regulation on behalf of Saenuri Party seeking to prevent portals from revising headlines or texts of articles provided by media outlets without their agreement in advance. Park showed confidence in legislation and said, "Many lawmakers agree with me."
Park said that the system of portals should be reformed since the national consensus for the fair media and economic democratization of portals is secured.
The lawmaker said, "Although Naver announced the coexistence proposal for startups, many people think that it is not enough in many cases. The party launched a taskforce. If Naver doesn't come up with additional plans in the future, the National Assembly will strengthen rules and legal framework."
