Hyosung Heavy Industries will showcase a range of next-generation power grid technologies, including high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission and solid-state transformers (SST), at a single event. The company aims to highlight its competitiveness in the power grid business, from core technologies linked to the government's West Coast HVDC localization project to an artificial intelligence (AI)-based power equipment management platform.

According to Hyosung Heavy Industries on Wednesday, the company is participating in BIXPO (Bitgaram International Exposition of Electric Power Technology) 2026, which runs through Nov. 6 at the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju.

Hyosung Heavy Industries is putting its voltage-source converter (VSC) HVDC system at the forefront of the exhibition. The company plans to introduce related systems, including valves and controllers, selected in September for Korea Electric Power Corp.'s (KEPCO) large-capacity VSC-HVDC localization and demonstration project.

VSC-HVDC is a technology used to transmit large amounts of electricity over long distances. Hyosung Heavy Industries is strengthening its technological competitiveness in this field with a focus on the government's West Coast HVDC construction project.

The company will also showcase a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), a device designed to stabilize power grids. The equipment rapidly corrects voltage fluctuations in power systems, improving grid stability amid growing renewable energy generation and large-scale electricity demand.

Hyosung Heavy Industries will also exhibit SST, a next-generation power conversion device. SST is an advanced transformer that uses semiconductor technology in the power conversion process and is considered a promising solution for environments where electricity demand changes rapidly, such as data centers and distributed power sources.

The company will also unveil AI-based power equipment management technology. Its power equipment asset management platform, ARMOUR+, analyzes equipment conditions based on operational data and helps improve maintenance efficiency.

During the exhibition, Hyosung Heavy Industries plans to introduce its latest power technologies and development achievements to domestic and overseas customers and industry officials while expanding technical exchanges.

"We will continue advancing power technologies such as SST and HVDC and strengthening our competitiveness to lead the future power grid market," a Hyosung Heavy Industries official said.
