Lamine Yamal of Barcelona, still just 19 years old, has surpassed Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé to set a new record for the most goals scored by a teenager in UEFA Champions League (UCL) history.

Yamal scored the opening goal to lead his team to a convincing 3-0 victory over Aston Villa of England in their fourth match of the 2026-27 UCL league phase at Spotify Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain, on Tuesday.

Starting as a right winger, Yamal capitalized on a misplaced pass by opposing defender João Gomes in the seventh minute, finding the net with a left-footed shot.

The goal brought Yamal's UCL career tally to 14 goals in 37 appearances, setting a new record for the most goals scored by a teenager in the competition's history, surpassing Mbappé's previous record of 13. Yamal, who turns 20 next July, still has opportunities to extend the record.

Yamal has already set several youngest-player records in the UCL. In 2023, he became the youngest player ever to start a UCL main-draw match at 16 years and 83 days old. He also holds the records for the most goals scored before turning 18 (five) and before turning 19 (11).

With his appearance in Tuesday's match, Yamal also brought his UCL career appearances to 37, equaling the record for the most appearances by a teenager held by Warren Zaïre-Emery of Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona secured a 3-0 victory thanks to Yamal's opening goal and a second-half brace from Raphinha. Barcelona handed Aston Villa, who had won their first three UCL matches, their first defeat of the competition and improved their record to three wins and one loss (nine points).

Raphinha also added two goals on the night, bringing his tally to 19 goals in 13 competitive matches this season, the most by any player across Europe's five major leagues in all competitions this season. He also increased his UCL career tally to 23 goals, moving into joint third place on Barcelona's all-time scoring list in the competition alongside Robert Lewandowski. Lionel Messi (120 goals) and Luis Suárez (25), both now playing in the United States, occupy the top two spots.

Barcelona also achieved a notable defensive milestone. The team ended a run of 18 consecutive UCL matches in which it had conceded at least one goal, dating back to the first leg of its quarterfinal against Borussia Dortmund last April, keeping a clean sheet for the first time in 19 matches.

After suffering consecutive defeats to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Real Madrid last month, Barcelona has regained its attacking form, scoring nine goals in its last two competitive matches. Yamal and Raphinha have accounted for 32 of the team's 60 goals this season.
