Doosan Enerbility has joined hands with LIG Defense & Aerospace (LIG D&A) to develop guided weapons.
On the 13th, Doosan Enerbility announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LIG D&A to develop guided weapon engines.
The signing ceremony on that day was attended by officials from both companies, including Son Seung-woo, head of Doosan Enerbility's Power Services Business Group, and Park Tae-sik, head of LIG D&A's Missile Systems Business Division.
Guided weapons are weapon systems that detect and track the location and movement of targets, adjusting flight paths via guidance devices to strike targets with precision.
The two companies will establish a close cooperative framework spanning the entire process, including the development of engines applicable to guided weapon systems, testing, evaluation, and certification cooperation. LIG D&A will oversee guided weapon system development, while Doosan Enerbility will take charge of developing engines applied to the systems.
The two companies plan to pioneer future defense markets based on their accumulated capabilities in guided weapon systems and aero-engines, respectively. In particular, engine indigenization is expected to serve as a turning point to lower dependence on foreign technologies and resolve export restrictions.
Son Seung-woo, head of the Power Services Business Group, said, "This agreement is highly significant in establishing a long-term cooperative system with LIG D&A, which possesses the nation's top guided weapon system development capabilities," adding, "By combining the core technologies held by both companies, we will contribute to technological indigenization in K-defense capable of competing in the global market."
