South Korean national football team strikers Oh Hyeon-gyu (25, Beşiktaş) and Cho Gue-sung (28, Midtjylland) both found the net in European club competitions on the same day.
Oh led his team to a 3-2 victory by assisting the opening goal and scoring a brace against Hoffenheim on the 15th (local time) in Matchday 2 of the 2026–2027 UEFA Europa League (UEL) league phase held at the SNP Arena in Hoffenheim, Germany.
Starting the match, Oh attempted a right-footed shot in front of goal from a Beşiktaş left corner in the 15th minute of the second half, which directed the ball toward Amir Murillo, who slotted it home. With the score tied at 1-1 after conceding an equalizer to Hoffenheim in the 23rd minute of the second half, Oh netted the go-ahead goal in the 27th minute by finishing a through ball on a counterattack from Junior Olaitan with his right foot. Seven minutes later, he connected with a low cross sent from the right by Ilhan Fakli with a sliding finish to make it 3-1, sealing the victory before taking off his jersey to celebrate his first brace of the season, even while receiving a yellow card.
Having previously tallied one goal in UEL qualifying and one assist without a goal in league play, Oh added two goals and one assist on the day, bringing his cumulative attacking points for the season to three goals and two assists in official matches.
Oh, whose standing within the squad had narrowed after conceding his starting role to new signing Dušan Vlahović, roared, "It was a truly fierce match," adding, "The manager stressed that we had to fight, and I showed that on the pitch." He continued, "I am glad we won. As long as the manager and the fans believe in me, I will pour everything into it."
Meanwhile, Cho Gue-sung started in Midtjylland's Matchday 1 fixture of the 2026–2027 UEFA Conference League (UECL) league phase against KF Egnatia (Albania) held on the same day at Elbasan Arena in Albania. With his team trailing 0-1, Cho headed home a cross from the right by Rasmus Kristensen in the 33rd minute of the first half to score a priceless equalizer.
Midtjylland finished the match tied 1-1 without further goals, and Cho took his season tally to four goals and one assist in official matches.
