LG Electronics announced on the 6th that it will supply its next-generation integrated cockpit solution to Renault Group's New Trafic E-Tech Electric, Europe's first commercial software-defined vehicle (SDV).

LG Electronics stated that the integrated cockpit solution is optimized for the characteristics of SDVs, which have emerged as the mainstream in the future mobility industry. While conventional vehicles operate dozens of electronic control units (ECUs) individually across functions such as the cockpit, driver assistance, and powertrain, SDVs provide integrated vehicle control through high-performance computers and a centralized software architecture. The company explained that advanced AI-based features and other capabilities can also be continuously upgraded via over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

An official from LG Electronics emphasized, "Tailored to the characteristics of SDVs, this solution integrally controls the instrument cluster system that delivers driving information and the infotainment system supporting navigation and media playback. While enhancing readability by presenting diverse information seamlessly, it also allows automakers to lower production costs through component simplification and design optimization."

The background behind LG Electronics' ability to showcase such an advanced, SDV-tailored solution lies in solidifying its partnership based on technology accumulated over an extended period. Building on manufacturing, UX, and UI capabilities honed across its TV, home appliance, and mobile operations, LG Electronics has gained recognition as a key partner in automotive instrument clusters and infotainment.

In particular, the company has established a long-term relationship with Renault Group, from being selected as an outstanding supplier in 2014, 2017, and 2020 to jointly developing an Android-based in-vehicle infotainment system in 2021.

LG Electronics plans to establish itself as a trusted supplier in the SDV automotive electronics market by expanding cooperation with major global automakers in North America, Asia, and other regions.

Eun Seok-hyun, head of LG Electronics' Vehicle Component Solutions (VS) Company, stated, "Based on close collaboration with global automakers including Renault Group, we will continue to advance core technologies and solutions essential for the mobility industry's transition to SDVs."
