World-leading South Korean women's archery was defeated by India in the recurve final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, falling short of an eighth consecutive championship.
South Korea—fielding Kang Chae-young (30), Lee Yun-ji (25, both Hyundai Mobis), and Oh Ye-jin (23, Kwangju Bank)—succumbed to India with a set score of 3-5 (54-54, 56-56, 51-55, 54-54) in the women's recurve team final held at the Okazaki Central General Park Multi-Purpose Ground in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, on the 2nd.
With this defeat, South Korean women's archery saw its streak of consecutive recurve team titles at the Asian Games halt at seven. South Korea had previously captured the gold medal in the women's recurve team event at every Asian Games since the 1998 Bangkok Games.
After sweeping Indonesia 6-0 (53-49, 54-52, 57-55) in the semifinals despite strong winds to advance to the final, South Korea tied India in the first two sets. However, in the third set, all three archers managed only three points, surrendering the set to India. In the fourth set, India's final arrow dramatically pierced the 10-ring to force another tie, sealing South Korea's 3-5 defeat.
In recurve team archery, scores from two arrows shot by each archer per set are combined. The team winning a set receives two points, while a tie awards one point to each side.
