LS Electric is supplying 180 billion won worth of ultra-high voltage transformers to hyperscale AI data centers in North America. Amid growing demand for North American power equipment driven by expanding investments in AI data centers, the company is broadening its supply scope beyond conventional power distribution equipment to include ultra-high voltage transformers.
LS Electric announced on the 1st that it signed a supply contract worth a total of 133.41 million dollars (approximately 181.2 billion won) for 345 kV ultra-high voltage transformers in a North American hyperscale AI data center project. LS Electric will deliver ultra-high voltage transformers sequentially to nine substations through 2030.
The project involves simultaneously constructing large-scale AI data centers and the requisite generation, transmission, and substation infrastructure to supply power across multiple regions in North America. With the recent proliferation of gigawatt (GW)-scale AI data center construction across North America, demand for transmission and distribution equipment—including ultra-high voltage transformers, switchboards, and circuit breakers—is rising concurrently.
LS Electric maintains an end-to-end transmission and distribution product portfolio spanning ultra-high voltage transformers to high- and low-voltage distribution systems. Building on the newly secured delivery record for 345 kV ultra-high voltage transformers, the company plans to expand packages bundling both transformers and distribution equipment for North American AI data centers.
An LS Electric official said, "This contract is highly significant in that our ultra-high voltage transformer technology and supply capabilities were recognized in a North American hyperscale AI data center project." The official added, "Leveraging the supply track record secured for 345 kV ultra-high voltage transformers, we will actively expand additional order intake across the North American AI data center power infrastructure market."
