Samsung E&A is stepping up its expansion into the liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant business with the rollout of a specialized module package engineered for LNG liquefaction plant construction. The company plans to target the small- and mid-scale LNG liquefaction plant market by pairing pre-engineering with modularization technologies to shorten project execution cycles.

On the 17th, Samsung E&A announced that it unveiled its LNG Module Package for LNG liquefaction plants at Gastech 2026, held in Bangkok, Thailand, on the 16th (local time). Gastech is a major global energy exhibition and conference covering natural gas, LNG, low-carbon solutions, and energy AI.

The newly introduced package provides an integrated solution by structuring key LNG liquefaction processes into modular units. It combines the AP-SMR™ (Single Mixed Refrigerant) liquefaction technology of Honeywell Technologies with Samsung E&A's module design and execution capabilities, primarily targeting small- and mid-scale LNG projects.

Samsung E&A explained that by pre-engineering core processes and modularizing them, companies can significantly reduce the time required from early project development through engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). The company aims to cut overall project schedules by about 20% compared to conventional approaches.

Modular construction involves prefabricating plant components in factories or fabrication yards before transporting and assembling them on site. This method reduces field labor, thereby enhancing construction quality control and streamlining schedule management. Samsung E&A incorporated its extensive module fabrication and installation expertise gained from previous projects into the package to maximize productivity and execution efficiency.

LNG emits less carbon than conventional fossil fuels like coal and is recognized as a key bridge fuel during the energy transition. Driven by growing global power demand and intensifying efforts to bolster energy security, the market for LNG demand and liquefaction plant construction is expected to expand further.

Leveraging its pre-engineered module package, Samsung E&A plans to provide prospective clients with concrete technical and commercial data from the earliest stages of development to sharpen its bidding competitiveness. The strategy is designed to accelerate feasibility studies and technical consultations, assist client decision-making, and ultimately translate early engagement into full EPC contract awards.

In particular, the company intends to broaden its footprint by tapping into rising modularization demand across small- and mid-scale LNG liquefaction facilities. Standardizing and pre-engineering the module packages will minimize design and construction burdens across projects while optimizing project execution.

Earlier this year, Samsung E&A reorganized its business portfolio into three primary divisions: Hydrocarbon, Advanced Industry, and New Energy. The company designated LNG as a major growth engine within New Energy, alongside clean energy and water solutions. Since then, it has steadily expanded its track record by securing front-end engineering design (FEED) for an eco-friendly LNG plant in Indonesia and conceptual design contracts for North American LNG projects.

An official from Samsung E&A said, "The core of this package lies in slashing project schedules and minimizing execution uncertainties by coupling a proven licensor's process technology with our modular execution capabilities," adding, "We will continue to address rising modularization demand in the LNG plant sector and strengthen client partnerships from the initial project stages to expand our presence in the LNG market."
