Hyundai Glovis and the Engineering & Construction Group of Samsung C&T are partnering to develop logistics automation and robot delivery services inside smart buildings.

On the 17th, Hyundai Glovis announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Samsung C&T's E&C Group for the joint development of smart building logistics automation and robot delivery services at its headquarters in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, on the 16th.

The signing ceremony was attended by key officials from both companies, including Han Kyu-heon, head of the Future Innovation Technology Center at Hyundai Glovis, and Cho Hye-jung, executive vice president and head of the DxP Business Division at Samsung C&T.

Under the agreement, the two companies will collaborate to develop logistics automation technologies and operating models tailored for smart buildings. Next year, they plan to identify real-world testbed sites to conduct proofs of concept (PoC), refine service capabilities, and formalize commercialization models.

Specifically, Hyundai Glovis will spearhead automated solutions covering the collection, storage, sorting, and transport of parcel items within buildings. Samsung C&T will analyze facility characteristics of smart buildings to establish service structures and operating environments optimized for robotic delivery.

At the core of the initiative is the unmanned indoor delivery of packages and mail using autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

For instance, once parcels arrive at a building's mailroom or central parcel holding area, robots accept, store, and categorize them. The robots then navigate ground and underground floors via elevators and other building infrastructure to deliver items directly to users' work floors and specific desks.

Both firms plan to incorporate AI and robotics throughout the entire pipeline, from parcel intake to final delivery. Through this setup, they aim to automate repetitive delivery tasks while streamlining indoor logistics flows and maximizing operational efficiency.

Going forward, the companies intend to broaden the scope of their partnership to develop robot-driven services rarely seen in conventional office environments and expand into the smart building sector as a new business frontier.

Cho Hye-jung, head of the DxP Business Division at Samsung C&T, said, "In the AI era, smart buildings are expected to evolve toward delivering tangible user experiences powered by rapidly advancing robotics," adding, "By pairing Hyundai Glovis's logistics automation capabilities with Samsung C&T's robot operating solutions, we will accelerate the commercialization of differentiated robot services that enhance the spatial value of buildings in the coming Physical AI era."

Han Kyu-heon, head of the Future Innovation Technology Center at Hyundai Glovis, remarked, "Based on Hyundai Glovis's proprietary logistics automation technologies and operational expertise, we will roll out innovative services optimized for smart building environments," adding, "Through our collaboration with Samsung C&T, we will set a new benchmark for logistics services in the future office market."
