Hanwha Systems has unveiled its “space AI solution,” which uses artificial intelligence to analyze satellite imagery in real time, to the overseas market for the first time. The company aims to improve reconnaissance and surveillance efficiency by linking satellite data collection, analysis and command decision support into a single system.
Hanwha Systems said on Sept. 10 that it held a launch event for the space AI solution at MSPO 2026, Eastern Europe’s largest defense exhibition, in Kielce, Poland, on Sept. 9 local time. During the event, the company demonstrated AI analyzing in real time imagery of Eastern Europe captured by satellites currently in operation.
The space AI solution uses AI to interpret and analyze image data transmitted by various satellites to ground stations and extract key information. It performs functions including automatic object detection, situational pattern analysis and anomaly detection, enabling users to quickly identify the information they need.
In wartime, the technology can be used to track enemy movements and military activity. During disasters, it can also analyze changes in buildings and terrain to quickly assess the extent of damage.
A key feature is its ability to jointly analyze data from electro-optical, or EO, satellites and synthetic aperture radar, or SAR, satellites. SAR satellites can capture images regardless of weather conditions or time of day, but their black-and-white radar imagery can be difficult to interpret visually. Hanwha Systems plans to use AI to rapidly identify aircraft, ships and vehicles in SAR imagery and combine the data with EO imagery to improve analytical accuracy.
Hanwha Systems plans to build its own “space-ground integrated infrastructure” by linking very low Earth orbit SAR satellites with a space AI data center.
“The space AI solution integrates EO and SAR satellite imagery and converts satellite data into immediate reconnaissance and tactical intelligence,” a Hanwha Systems official said. “We will continue to build our own space-ground integrated infrastructure by linking very low Earth orbit SAR satellites with a space AI data center.”
