President Lee Jae-myung accepted the resignation of Kim Yong-beom, chief of staff for policy at Cheong Wa Dae, on the 1st.

This comes 15 months after he was appointed as the first policy chief of the Lee Jae-myung administration in June of last year.

Kang Yu-jung, senior spokesperson for Cheong Wa Dae, announced during a briefing at the Chunchugwan press center that day, "Kim Yong-beom, chief of staff for policy at Cheong Wa Dae, tendered his resignation yesterday. Accordingly, President Lee Jae-myung accepted his resignation today."

Kim had faced growing calls to step down from opposition parties and other quarters amid controversies surrounding single-stock leveraged exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and failures in real estate policy.

Demands for Kim's resignation grew louder, centered around the opposition, after the policy chief replacement was not included in Cheong Wa Dae's cabinet reshuffle and presidential staff reorganization announcement on the 30th of last month.

As President Lee's approval rating recently plunged to a record low in the 30% range, voices urging Kim's resignation also emerged from within parts of the ruling party.

This is interpreted as having prompted Kim to make his decision.
