Samsung Heavy Industries has won an order for two containerships, continuing to secure additional orders after recently achieving its commercial vessel order target ahead of schedule.

Samsung Heavy Industries disclosed on the 31st that it bagged a 444.5 billion won order for two containerships from an African shipper. The vessels are scheduled for delivery by December 2028.

Samsung Heavy Industries' cumulative orders in the commercial vessel sector for this year stand at 36 ships worth 6.1 billion dollars, already surpassing its order target of 5.7 billion dollars. By vessel type, orders include 14 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers (including one LNG-FSRU), two ethane carriers, four gas carriers, four containerships, and 12 crude oil tankers.

Including two FLNG units in the offshore sector, total cumulative orders for this year reached 10.5 billion dollars, achieving 76% of its annual order target of 13.9 billion dollars.

An official from Samsung Heavy Industries stated, "In the containership sector, orders are being placed briskly, centered on 8,000 to 13,000 TEU-class vessels driven by demand for eco-friendly ship replacements," adding, "As we have exceeded our annual order target for the commercial vessel sector, we plan to focus even more on selective order-taking centered on profitability."
