Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered all-out efforts to search for and rescue missing persons in connection with damage from massive flash floods that occurred in the border region between Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region.

According to reports on the 27th by media outlets including the party's official organ, People's Daily, President Xi was briefed on the landslides and massive flooding that struck the border area of Gyirong County in the Tibet Autonomous Region on that day and instructed, "Spare no effort in searching for and rescuing missing persons," while ordering officials to "minimize casualties by evacuating residents from high-risk areas and providing timely medical treatment to the injured." He further called for strengthening monitoring and early warning systems while making every effort to prevent secondary disasters.

Reiterating his call to "prepare for worst-case scenarios and extreme conditions," he also ordered officials to "thoroughly implement flood and typhoon prevention measures, and actively identify and address potential risk factors."

According to People's Daily, three people have already died in the Tibet Autonomous Region due to the incident on that day. In addition, 265 people were tallied as missing. The scale of the disaster is comparable to that of Nepal, where more than 160 people were killed and nine South Koreans remain missing.
