Foreign ministry appoints Ambassador to Zimbabwe Park Jae-kyung as new envoy to Nepal

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 28th that it has appointed Park Jae-kyung, the current ambassador to Zimbabwe, as the new ambassador to Nepal, which has been hit by massive flood damage.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal had been operating under a chargé d'affaires system after former Ambassador Park Tae-young was recently assigned as consul general in Istanbul.

The South Korean Embassy in Nepal is a small diplomatic mission comprising six public officials, including the chargé d'affaires, raising concerns over a potential shortage of response personnel to conduct search and rescue operations and establish safety measures for South Korean nationals in the Rasuwa region of Nepal.

Currently, the embassy staff have been deployed to search and rescue operations for out-of-contact South Koreans, monitoring on-site conditions while continuously verifying whether there are additional affected citizens.

The newly appointed Ambassador Park began his public career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994, served at diplomatic missions in Myanmar and Indonesia, and later served as minister at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Canada in 2021 and ambassador to Zimbabwe in 2023.
