Samsung Electronics has moved production of its heat pump boilers, previously manufactured overseas, to Korea, establishing a production line at its Gwangju plant with annual capacity of 100,000 units. With domestic demand for heat pumps expected to grow amid the government's push for heating electrification, the move is seen as a preemptive step to secure a domestic production base and strengthen the company's ability to respond to the market. It's also expected to expand the domestic foundation for its heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) business — which the company is cultivating as a future growth engine within its home appliance division — allowing it to preemptively respond to market growth and strengthen its competitive edge.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 24th that it has built a 2,132-square-meter production line for its "EHS Heat Pump Boiler" at the second campus of its Gwangju plant in Gwangju, South Jeolla Province, beginning trial production on the 19th of this month. The move reflects the company's plan to preemptively respond to market expansion by shifting production of products previously made overseas to Korea.

Beyond finished-product manufacturing, Samsung Electronics is also expanding the domestic share of core component production and the broader manufacturing process. The heat pumps produced will be sold entirely within Korea, marking the first case among heat pump manufacturers participating in the heating electrification business to replace an overseas production base with a domestic production line.

The Gwangju plant, where the new production line was built, primarily manufactures Samsung Electronics' premium home appliances and has accumulated substantial manufacturing technology and quality control expertise over the years. Building on this manufacturing competitiveness, the company plans to actively pursue the expansion of domestic heating electrification adoption and the popularization of heat pumps.

The EHS Heat Pump Boiler produced on the new line is a heating solution that uses natural ambient air heat combined with electricity to provide indoor heating and hot water. It's a high-efficiency product capable of generating nearly five times more heat than the electrical energy it consumes, offering higher efficiency and lower carbon emissions compared to fossil-fuel-based boilers.

Samsung Electronics is launching an EHS Heat Pump Boiler optimized for domestic conditions while pursuing nationwide demonstration projects aimed at popularizing heat pumps in the Korean market. The company is already supplying products as part of a heating electrification adoption project carried out on Jeju Island this year, and plans to expand its supply scale by participating in a second phase of the project covering 1,418 households in the second half of the year.

Alongside this, the company is also conducting demonstration research to develop customized solutions optimized for each region's climate and housing conditions across Korea. It is currently verifying the heating and hot water performance and energy efficiency of the EHS Heat Pump Boiler in real residential settings across the country, including Yangpyeong, Chungju, and Namhae.

In addition, at Jeju Island and the Samsung C&T Housing Research Institute in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, the company is demonstrating its EHS All-in-One solution, which can provide cooling, heating, and hot water through a single integrated system, verifying its applicability across a range of housing types, from single-family homes to multi-unit apartment buildings.
