The government will fully expand its "AI-friendly report writing" guidelines to reports at the bureau and department director level starting on the 24th, aiming to increase AI utilization in the public sector and improve administrative efficiency. This approach involves reducing complex tables and figures in favor of narrative writing that clearly conveys meaning through sentences.

Alongside this full rollout, existing document writing guidelines have also been simplified to focus on core principles. The goal is to free staff from being tied down by formal writing rules while still maintaining a document structure that's easy for AI to understand.

Since March, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has piloted guidelines encouraging narrative-style writing and discouraging complex formats like "tables within tables," making it easier for AI to grasp document context.

During the pilot, staff spent less time editing reports and formatting tables, and errors in content recognition decreased when using AI to summarize reports or create presentation materials.

The core aim is to make a report's content and context clear, rather than focusing on formatting. The guidelines discourage frequently used elements like tables within tables, complex merged cells, and design-heavy titles and tables of contents, while recommending narrative sentences with clear subjects and predicates.

The biggest change involves the report writing method itself. Tables and figures will be given titles and numbers to make data structure clear, and the way items are marked within documents will also be standardized. Sentences should be written in narrative form rather than bullet-point style, with item markers standardized in the order (Ⅰ., 1., 가., 1), 가)'), and unnecessary visual decoration is discouraged.

Minister Yoon Ho-jung said, "AI-friendly document writing is an administrative innovation that fundamentally changes how public servants work, and a digital transformation that turns government reports into high-quality text that AI can utilize," adding, "As the ministry responsible for government innovation, we will continue leading innovation suited to the AI era."
