KOICA emergency relief supply logistics operation. / Hanjin

Hanjin will handle transport of the South Korean government's emergency relief supplies for victims of the Venezuela earthquake, covering a total distance of about 17,500 km via air and land from Incheon to the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.

Hanjin announced on the 11th that it has been selected as the logistics operator for the "Venezuela Earthquake Emergency Relief Supply Transport Project," led by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The support is intended to help people in Venezuela affected by the earthquake that struck in June. Hanjin will transport 500 emergency family tents from KOICA's relief stockpile to the affected region.

Hanjin will oversee the entire process — from repackaging the relief supplies for air transport to international air freight and cross-border ground transport at the destination.

The supplies will depart Incheon International Airport starting early this month, traveling by air via Canada to Bogotá, Colombia, before continuing by road to Caracas, Venezuela's capital.

The total transport distance from Incheon to Caracas is about 17,500 km. Given the long distance involved, the route passes through Canada and Colombia, with roughly 1,800 km of overland, cross-border transport between Colombia and Venezuela.

Since emergency relief supplies for natural disasters must be transported quickly and safely in large quantities over a short period, securing reliable flights and smooth customs clearance at the destination are critical. Hanjin coordinated with airlines to secure emergency flights capable of transporting the cargo in split shipments.

For border customs clearance and ground transport between Colombia and Venezuela, Hanjin plans to work in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the local embassy.

Hanjin also handled transport of the South Korean government's relief supplies following the Myanmar earthquake in May of last year.

A Hanjin official said the company is honored to contribute to this national relief effort through its global logistics capabilities, adding that it will ensure the entire transport process goes smoothly so the relief supplies reach the people of Venezuela, who are currently facing hardship, quickly and safely.
