KT announced on the 6th that it has expanded its AI-based real-time spam blocking service to all customers. The company said the move uses AI to detect evolving spam types in real time, strengthening its customer protection system against digital crime.

KT added the AI spam-blocking feature to its existing "Spam Blocking Service," making it available free of charge to all customers, including those on KT's budget MVNO plans. As spam messages have increasingly used tactics like inserting special characters to evade filters, KT developed its own AI detection technology to overcome the limitations of the previous keyword-based approach.

The AI spam-blocking feature has been piloted since January among 800,000 users who had set the smart blocking function to "high" within the "KT Spam Block" app, and was rolled out to all customers on the 29th of last month after stability testing.

From July 29 to August 3, following the expanded rollout, the false-block rate stood at 0.003%, with zero related customer inquiries. With AI now catching spam that previously slipped through, the total number of blocked spam messages also rose 3.5%.

KT also plans to launch a "real-time spam blocking notification service" this August, allowing customers to check blocked spam messages in real time to improve convenience.

This expansion of AI spam blocking is part of KT's Customer Protection 365 task force activities. The company said it plans to continue advancing its AI-based detection technology to build a customer protection system that proactively prevents spam and digital crime.
