SK Hynix is comprehensively revamping its recruitment process to select talent tailored to the artificial intelligence (AI) era. The policy aims to focus on "thinking muscles"—fundamental thinking capabilities—rather than mere specifications.

On July 30, SK Hynix announced that it will accept documents for entry-level rolling recruitment from August 20 to 26. The recruited job functions include design, device, R&D process, and mass production technology, with job locations in Icheon, Cheongju, Bundang, and Seoul. Following the total abolition of educational background requirements last June, anyone can apply regardless of age or educational background.

The core change in this recruitment drive is a "half-day in-depth interview" focused on verifying practical capabilities. SK Hynix explained that this aligns with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won's philosophy on the ideal talent for the AI era, centered on "thinking muscles." Earlier, Chairman Chey said, "In the AI era, talent capable of navigating diverse domains to design new systems and societies where humans and AI coexist will become more important," adding, "The power to question and think about the essence of a problem on one's own (thinking muscles) is key."

Moving away from existing interviews that lasted around 20 to 30 minutes, SK Hynix will conduct in-depth task execution and interviews over half a day. The plan is to comprehensively evaluate applicants' job expertise, AI application capability, humanities literacy, and logical thinking skills.

The company also plans to conduct capability-focused evaluations at the document screening stage. SK Hynix stated that it will eliminate existing self-introduction essay prompts and introduce a new template to describe applicants' AI utilization capabilities and semiconductor job expertise. The intent is to verify, starting from the document stage, applicants' potential to flexibly apply AI to work and solve difficult on-site challenges, rather than relying on specifications or formal introductions.

SK Hynix will also host an "AI Hackathon Contest" in the fourth quarter, granting a Fast Track benefit—waiving document screening and offering immediate interview opportunities—to high-performing participants. This contest is a competition to build software or algorithm models that resolve complex field problems within a limited timeframe. Participants will undergo challenges to solve semiconductor site issues using AI.

An official from SK Hynix said, "We revamped our recruitment system to move away from specs and document evaluations, allowing us to closely test applicants' fundamental problem-solving abilities and practical skills," adding, "By actively recruiting and nurturing AI talent equipped with thinking power, we will maintain our unmatched technological leadership in the global AI semiconductor market."
