AXZ, the operator of the portal service Daum, announced on July 27 that it is changing its company name to Daum Co., Ltd. (hereinafter Daum).

AXZ approved the name change to Daum Co., Ltd. at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders held on July 20. The company explained that the name change was pursued to clarify its corporate identity by aligning the brand of the company with its flagship service, while strengthening communication with Daum portal users and partners.

Even after the name change, the method of using existing services, including Daum, and member accounts will remain the same. Daum plans to introduce new AI-based features and services in stages while preserving the familiar service experience and brand equity valued by users.

Launched in 1995, Daum has connected people with information and people with people through various services such as search, news, email, cafes, and blogs, growing alongside South Korea's internet industry. It currently operates various digital services including the Daum app, search, news, email, cafes, and the creator platform Tistory.

The new company name, Daum, reflects its commitment to inheriting this historical legacy while creating new methods of information search and connection required in the AI era. Meaning "the time or order that follows after now" in native Korean, Daum plans to grow into a platform that connects users' today with a better tomorrow, just like its name implies.

Along with this name change, Daum will revamp its corporate website and official channels, while embarking on the construction of a next-generation portal that combines AI technology with its accumulated service capabilities in search, content, and community sectors. Moving beyond traditional keyword-centered search, the company will enhance AI search that comprehensively understands user questions and contexts, while upgrading personalization and summarization features in the news and content areas to allow users to navigate trustworthy information more conveniently. It also plans to continuously strengthen the competitiveness of community and creator ecosystems such as Cafe and Tistory.

Lee Geon-soo, CEO of Daum, said that this name change is not merely altering the company's title, but making its responsibility toward Daum's service and future clearer, adding that while inheriting the trust and values Daum has built over 30 years, the company will combine AI technology to leap forward as a leader in the new internet and AI era.
