BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, has become a major shareholder in Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) after increasing its stake to over 5 percent.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's DART system on July 21, BlackRock disclosed its stake in KAI at 5.02 percent.
Based on the previous day's closing price, BlackRock's holding in KAI is valued at approximately 700 billion won.
Under the Financial Investment Services and Capital Markets Act and its enforcement decree, holding a stake of 5 percent or more triggers a reporting requirement for large holdings of stocks and other equity. BlackRock's previous stake was 4.95 percent.
BlackRock has been expanding its investments in major South Korean companies recently. As of the end of last month, the number of domestic listed companies in which BlackRock holds a 5 percent or greater stake stood at 19, up by 12 from seven a year earlier.
