SK Telecom has established an AI-driven special telecommunication quality management plan leveraging its advanced network operations and control technologies.
The company announced on the 16th that it will set up a special operations center operating from July 20 to August 31 to intensively monitor and manage communication quality during the peak summer vacation season.
To handle the anticipated surge in data traffic from increased travel, SKT plans to combine proactive system checks with real-time monitoring at major transit hubs and high-density public facilities. This enhanced response framework aims to ensure seamless communication services for customers on the move and at vacation destinations.
First, the company will utilize its proprietary AI platforms, A-One and Spider, to predict traffic patterns and detect anomalies early. A-One analyzes network coverage, forecasts traffic based on historical event data, and works with AI agents to monitor quality. Spider integrates and analyzes alarms and statistical data from all core network equipment to spot irregularities and suggest immediate corrective actions.
In coordination with specialized personnel from its subsidiaries and partners—including SK Broadband and SK O&S—SKT will conduct preemptive inspections and real-time monitoring across all domains, including core networks, transmission, wireless, roaming, and disaster response.
SKT has designated approximately 1,100 high-traffic locations nationwide as key theme zones, optimizing their capacity and stepping up on-site inspections. The company expects vacation demand to peak between August 1 and August 15, during which it will further intensify monitoring and field response readiness.
"For major event venues expecting heavy crowds, we will deploy mobile base stations and temporary communication facilities, paired with pre-event network inspections and real-time on-site monitoring," an SKT representative explained.
Prior to this, the company completed proactive inspections at 4,900 telecom facilities nationwide to prepare for potential natural disasters and extreme heatwaves. In the event of damage from typhoons or torrential rains, SKT plans to maintain its control and field response systems to immediately deploy emergency recovery personnel and equipment, while also providing on-site support to affected areas.
"We will thoroughly prepare by anticipating potential congestion during the holiday season and responding swiftly, ensuring our customers can enjoy seamless communication services anytime, anywhere," said Bok Jae-won, Vice President of Network Operations at SKT.
