The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF) is pushing forward with measures to vitalize family relations education to foster healthy communication among family members and enhance child-rearing capabilities.
MOGEF announced on July 12 that it will run a designated Family Relations Education Week from July 20 to 26, alongside an event promoting education participation until July 31.
The initiative is designed to encourage public participation in educational programs that build strong family ties. Under the plan, the ministry will designate the third week of every month as Family Relations Education Week, starting with the inaugural run from July 20 to 26. Following the designation, MOGEF will roll out a series of promotional events, including quiz contests and certification campaigns, offering prizes to participants through giveaways.
Related government agencies are also joining the promotional campaign. The Ministry of Education will host an event linked to its program for first-time parents, while the Ministry of Health and Welfare will run an event centered around self-diagnostic tools for positive parenting.
Efforts are also underway to lower barriers to accessing educational materials. MOGEF and the Korean Institute for Healthy Family will aggregate regional schedules from family centers nationwide onto an online database. They also plan to disseminate educational information tailored to youths and parent guides via the KakaoTalk channel "Korea Youth."
Furthermore, the government aims to establish an integrated portal service under the government portal Gov.24 by the end of this year. This system will allow citizens to check and apply for life-cycle educational programs—covering marriage, pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting—in a single place. Citizens wishing to join the programs can apply online via the official website, contact the primary call center, or visit a nearby family center.
To participate in the certification event, individuals who have completed either public or private family relations training can post their completion certificates or photos of their participation on Instagram with designated hashtags. They can then submit the link to their post through a Naver Form provided by the Korean Institute for Healthy Family.
"Family relations education serves as a crucial foundation for fostering mutual understanding and respect while preventing domestic conflicts," said MOGEF Minister Won Min-kyung. She added that "such programs will play a vital role in elevating communication and inclusivity across society," pledging to enhance accessibility so that anyone can easily access tailored education at necessary stages of life.
