KCC announced on July 9 that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Space Factory at the Klenze showroom in KCC’s headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on July 8 to cooperate on materials, technologies, and joint research in the modular housing sector.

The signing ceremony was attended by key executives from both companies, including Cho Gong-hoon, vice president of sales and marketing at KCC; Ryu Hae-wan, vice president of the interior and exterior materials business division at KCC; and Park Jung-jin, CEO of Space Factory.

The two companies plan to jointly evaluate structural elements, materials, fire resistance performance, and productivity to develop standardizable, next-generation modular housing models.

To this end, KCC will supply materials optimized for modular structures and provide technical support regarding fire resistance and product performance. Space Factory will take charge of designing, manufacturing, and building the modular homes, utilizing its smart factory-based automated production lines and project execution capabilities.

Modular housing is a construction system where the core structural components and interior finishes are pre-fabricated in a factory and then assembled on-site. Compared to conventional on-site construction methods, it offers distinct advantages such as shorter construction periods, uniform quality control, and enhanced structural efficiency. As the need for diversifying housing supply methods and boosting construction site productivity grows, the market's growth potential is highly anticipated.

"Leveraging KCC's extensive architectural materials lineup and fire-resistance technical expertise, we will work alongside Space Factory to contribute to developing safe and highly reliable modular housing models," a KCC official said.

"By combining our modular expertise with the materials and performance technologies of both companies, we will introduce next-generation modular housing models that stand out in the market," a Space Factory official emphasized.
