A power outage on a section of Seoul Subway Line 1 caused extensive delays and irregular train operations during the morning rush hour on July 8.
According to the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), a power supply failure occurred at around 7:29 a.m. along the southbound track between Changdong and Sinimun stations, triggering cascading delays and erratic scheduling across the entire line.
As a result of the failure, southbound train services between Dobongsan and Cheongnyangni (underground) stations were temporarily suspended. Trains on this specific stretch are currently being rerouted to share the northbound track, causing significant delays and irregular run times for both northbound and southbound services.
KORAIL has deployed an emergency response team to carry out repair work. However, due to ongoing rainfall, the restoration process is expected to take roughly four to five hours. The corporation plans to investigate the precise cause of the electrical failure once full operations are restored.
