Dongkuk CM, the plating and color steel sheet processing arm of Dongkuk Steel Group, is set to capture the green materials sector with its newly upgraded resource-recirculation steel products.
The company announced on the 2nd that it has significantly advanced its production technology for "Re-born Green" color steel sheets. By boosting the recycled plastic content from roughly 10% up to 25%, the company has also successfully rolled out novel "Matte" and "Stone" textures.
Re-born Green color steel sheets, initially developed by Dongkuk CM in November 2023 as a world-first, utilize raw materials sourced from recycled plastic waste. The latest advancement expands the recycled content ratio by 2.5 times. Despite this significantly higher blend of recycled plastic feedstocks, the upgraded sheets maintain identical levels of formability, durability, and surface finish compared to conventional products.
Rather than simply increasing raw recycled volumes, Dongkuk CM successfully engineered high-end aesthetics into the product line. The newly launched Matte and Stone designs replicate natural stone textures directly onto the steel surface, offering a distinct design solution for both interior and exterior architectural cladding markets.
Dongkuk CM aims to expand the footprint of its Re-born Green color steel sheets beyond building materials and home appliances into various other industrial components. Moving forward, the company plans to consistently strengthen its eco-friendly product portfolio grounded in a circular economy.
In tandem with these efforts, Dongkuk CM intends to scale up its development of eco-friendly, high-value-added color steel sheets under its "DK Color Vision 2030" roadmap, setting a target to establish a 1-million-ton annual sales system for color steel sheets by 2030.
"This upgraded lineup simultaneously captures eco-friendly value through plastic waste recycling alongside the native quality and design edge expected of premium color steel sheets," said Choi Woo-chan, head of the R&D Center. "We will continue to invest in eco-friendly material technologies to contribute to carbon neutrality and the circular economy, while leading the global green color steel sheet market."
