Samsung Epis Holdings has officially opened its China R&D center, a strategic move aimed at bolstering its novel drug development capabilities. With this launch, cooperation with the Chinese biotechnology ecosystem is expected to gain full momentum, particularly in the field of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), an area of intense focus for its subsidiary Samsung Bioepis.
On the 1st, Samsung Epis Holdings announced that it held an opening ceremony for Samsung Bioepis (China) Co., Ltd. (hereafter the China R&D Center) in Changping District, Beijing, and has commenced full-scale research and development activities.
The newly minted facility represents the first overseas R&D hub established by Samsung Epis Holdings, specifically designed to secure ADC-focused technology platforms and strengthen its innovative drug discovery pipeline.
Changping District, where the center is located, is recognized as a vital hub within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, one of China's top three biomedical clusters. It houses the Zhongguancun Life Science Park, a high-tech biotechnology industrial complex. The area's proximity to prestigious academic institutions, including Peking University and Tsinghua University, offers distinct advantages for tapping into world-class research infrastructure and elite scientific talent. Furthermore, its location near the Atlatl Beijing Frontier Innovation Center, with which the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) this past April, is anticipated to facilitate seamless open-innovation collaborations moving forward.
"The opening of our China R&D center marks the historic first step for our global R&D network," stated Kyung-Ah Kim, CEO of Samsung Epis Holdings, who attended the opening ceremony. "We will work closely with the Chinese biotechnology ecosystem and continuously strive to expand our new business ventures, including the discovery of innovative new drug candidates."
