Daum's AI summary feature/Upstage

The company portal "Daum," now powered by Upstage, is accelerating its artificial intelligence transition by introducing "AI Summary," a feature where generative AI directly synthesizes search results. Moving away from simply listing search results, the move signals an intensifying competition in AI-centric search that understands user intent and delivers core insights.

On the 1st, Upstage announced the beta launch of its "AI Summary" service on the Daum portal, leveraging its proprietary Large Language Model (LLM), "Solar," to automatically summarize search results.

AI Summary is a feature where the LLM directly analyzes web documents to comprehensively organize search findings. When a user enters a query, it presents the core information alongside supporting sources, and the AI continuously updates its output as the source documents change to ensure real-time accuracy. The system also deciphers intent behind conversational, full-sentence questions. To enhance readability, it structures multi-step procedural queries into chronological lists and formats comparative inquiries into tables.

The service is driven by Solar, Upstage's flagship LLM. This marks the first major deployment of Upstage's native AI model into Daum services since Upstage acquired AXZ last May. The company emphasized that the rollout carries significant weight as a vehicle for popularizing AI services through the Daum platform, which commands a weekly active user base of 10 million.

The AI Summary beta is initially available across six primary sectors: current issues, finance, entertainment, health, dictionary terms, and daily life. Upstage plans to sequentially expand the scope of coverage to officially launch the full service within the year. Additionally, it aims to introduce an "AI Mode" later this year, which will completely transform Daum’s unified search into an interactive, conversational AI experience.
