SK Chemicals has stepped forward to develop technology that expands the scope of material utilization in line with the petrochemical industry’s high value-added specialty materials competition. The strategy is to simultaneously target the strengthening of customers' product competitiveness and the expansion of new application markets while increasing the flexibility of deco sheets for furniture and interiors by applying its independent elastic material.
According to SK Chemicals on the 30th, the company announced that it developed a flexible deco sheet applying the elastic material 'SKYPEL' in collaboration with Toray Advanced Materials. Hansol HomeDeco presented an upgraded product with improved processability and applicability by applying the corresponding deco sheet to its interior finishing material 'Storyfilm.'
Characterizing the deco sheet developed this time is the reinforcement of flexibility while maintaining existing advantages—such as high transparency, gloss, and vivid colors—of GAG PET films used for luxury furniture and interior finishing materials. By applying SKYPEL, they improved the material to enable tight, seamless adhesion construction without lifting even on curved or angled structures, making it possible to realize both flat and curved surfaces with a single material.
SKYPEL is a polyester-based thermoplastic elastomer (TPEE) that possesses the flexibility of rubber and the strength of engineering plastics simultaneously. It displays excellence in heat resistance, impact resistance, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance, finding utilization in various industrial fields.
SK Chemicals plans to continuously widen its material application territory by expanding collaboration with specialized enterprises in each field based on its diverse specialty materials portfolio.
Kim Eung-soo, head of the Green Materials Business Division at SK Chemicals, stated, "This project is a case that derived substantial performance improvements by applying material technology to an existing product," adding, "We will continue to expand diverse application fields together with customers based on differentiated specialty materials."
