LS Electric is projected to step forward to secure global power market leadership while preparing for the future power market together with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

According to LS Electric on the 30th, the company held the opening ceremony of the 'LS Electric-KAIST Joint Research Center' at the KAIST Main Campus in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon on the past 29th. Attending the opening ceremony were major researchers and officials from both institutions, including Ahn Kil-young, Vice President of Manufacturing/R&BD at LS Electric, and Kim Kyung-soo, Senior Vice President for Institutional Relations at KAIST.

Through this cooperation, the two institutions plan to overcome next-generation technical barriers in the global power market through the operation of the joint research center, and through this, jointly develop high value-added future power solutions that will lead the world market.

The research center gathers expectations to serve as a talent training ground along with technology development. The strategy of both sides is not only to raise the capabilities of researchers together through joint R&D, but also to preemptively capture customized talent at an early stage and build a sustainable talent pipeline. Furthermore, to respond to future power paradigm shifts, they plan to concentrate on research fields such as next-generation high-efficiency power conversion, direct current (DC) power distribution, design optimization incorporating artificial intelligence (AI), reliability advancement through fault diagnosis technology, and next-generation cooling technology.

These research fields are core technologies at the center of the power industry paradigm shift, such as the proliferation of AI data centers and the expansion of renewable energy. As these are areas where the level of technical difficulty is high and competition is fierce in the global market, the research center is projected to perform a core hub role to overcome technical barriers in the next-generation power field and raise the competitiveness of the nation's future power industry.

Ahn Kil-young, Vice President of LS Electric, stated, "If KAIST's world-class research capabilities and LS Electric's global No. 1 technology create synergy, we will be able to present a new standard for global power technology," adding, "Through close industry-academia cooperation between the two institutions, we will preempt next-generation power solutions that will change the industry's paradigm and further solidify our leadership in the global power market."

Kim Kyung-soo, Senior Vice President for Institutional Relations at KAIST, said, "Through the establishment of this joint research center, we will do our best to overcome technical barriers in the next-generation power field," adding, "We will not spare support so that the joint research center can become a hub for securing source technologies that will lead the nation's future power industry and a cradle for nurturing core global talent."
