The death toll from a powerful earthquake in Venezuela has risen to at least 214, Reuters reported on the 25th (local time).
According to Reuters, the strong earthquake that struck west of Caracas, Venezuela on the 24th has resulted in a death toll compiled at a minimum of 214 people so far.
More than 1,520 injured people are currently hospitalized, and over 200 individuals have been found trapped beneath the rubble.
According to an online missing persons tracking website, more than 46,000 people have been reported unaccounted for.
Property damage is also substantial. Buildings collapsed in areas including the Venezuelan capital of Caracas and Moron, with around 250 buildings destroyed, leaving approximately 3,000 households homeless.
In La Guaira State, it was compiled that more than 70,000 families suffered damages, and having sustained the heaviest impact, the area was declared a "disaster zone."
Delcy Rodriguez, the interim President of Venezuela, has declared a state of national emergency and requested international rescue assistance.
Residents are conducting rescue activities with their bare hands due to a shortage of rescue equipment, and they are appealing for emergency assistance as food and medical supplies run low.
In response, the international community, including the United States and Russia, along with the UN and the Red Cross, is dispatching rescue teams and relief supplies to provide medical assistance.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced an emergency aid package worth 150 million dollars.
Meanwhile, major oil and gas facilities did not suffer significant damage, and operations are mostly being maintained normally, Reuters added.
