Samsung Electronics has joined forces with Alcedis, a specialized data-driven digital clinical trials company.
Samsung Electronics announced on June 24 that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Alcedis to leverage biometric data collected by the Galaxy Watch for new drug development clinical trials.
Founded in 1992, Alcedis is a specialized German enterprise that has executed clinical trials across diverse therapeutic areas, including oncology, cardiology, and neurology. Currently operating as a subsidiary of Huma Group, a global healthcare AI corporation, Alcedis is leading the digital transformation in clinical research.
Through this collaboration, the two companies will jointly develop methodologies to translate real-world biometric data—captured via the Galaxy Watch's advanced sensors during daily activities—into clinical endpoints capable of evaluating the efficacy and safety of novel therapeutics. Furthermore, they plan to establish broad-based cooperation spanning data collection, participant monitoring, trial operations, and regulatory compliance.
"Clinical research is increasingly moving toward a model where diverse partners unite to gain a deeper understanding of human health," said Choi Jong-min, Vice President of the Health Development Group within Samsung Electronics' MX Business. "Through this partnership, we aim to ensure that everyday data translates into new drug development research and life-changing innovations for patients."
Hanno Härtlein, CEO of Alcedis, remarked, "The future of clinical research hinges on our ability to capture meaningful, real-world health data from daily life. By combining our strengths with Samsung's scalable infrastructure, we will accelerate research timelines and drive more patient-centric healthcare innovation."
