The Omani Foreign Minister met with Iran's Foreign Minister and Parliament Speaker to discuss the Strait of Hormuz, reaffirming compliance with international law and guaranteeing toll-free, safe navigation, Reuters reported on June 22 (local time).
Following a tentative agreement reached between the United States and Iran in Switzerland on June 21, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is currently underway, with Oman and Iran consulting on measures to ensure safe maritime transit.
According to Reuters, Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Muscat, Oman, on the same day.
During the meeting, the officials focused their discussions on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in connection with the recent US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at ending hostilities.
Speaker Ghalibaf stated Iran's stance, noting, "We will manage the strait in strict compliance with international law."
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi emphasized the necessity of securing the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, alongside establishing a regional security framework, while underscoring cooperation without the intervention of outside forces.
Omani Foreign Minister Al Busaidi remarked, "We have reaffirmed our commitment to guaranteeing free and 'toll-free' navigation through the Strait of Hormuz."
Reuters added that it was also noted during the talks that some commercial vessels have already resumed transit through Omani territorial waters.
