Nexen Tire announced on June 22 that it will supply original equipment (OE) tires to Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD. This marks the first time Nexen Tire is supplying OE tires to BYD, with the initial contract covering two models: the Seal 6 and the Dolphin Surf.

The Seal is a high-performance strategic model developed by BYD to target the global market. The vehicle will be fitted with Nexen's N'Fera Sport, a high-performance summer tire that offers sporty handling and high-speed stability.

For the Dolphin Surf, known as the Seagull in the Chinese market, Nexen will supply its high-efficiency summer tire, the N'Blue S, for models exported to Europe. Designed to meet Europe's stringent carbon emission regulations, the N'Blue S minimizes rolling resistance while enhancing hydroplaning resistance and wet braking performance during high-speed driving.

"Securing these OE contracts for both models demonstrates our technological prowess and quality competitiveness, proving that a single tire design can deliver optimized performance across various vehicle types, whether EV or internal combustion engine," a Nexen Tire official said. "We plan to leverage this initial supply agreement to continuously strengthen our partnership with BYD."

Since launching its first overseas OE supply in 2012, Nexen Tire has established itself as a key supplier for major global automakers, including Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Stellantis, and Volkswagen. Domestically, its tires are supplied to a wide range of models, including the Hyundai Ioniq 6, the Nexo hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, and Kia's EV3 through EV9.
