Amid reports that the United States and Iran are on the verge of reaching a historic peace agreement, U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated on June 14 (local time) that President Donald Trump may attend the signing ceremony for the memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end hostilities.

Appearing on Fox News’ "The Big Weekend Show," Vice President Vance emphasized, "What we are trying to do is lower energy costs not just today, but for the long term, and create a real engine for growth and prosperity in the Middle East."

He further explained, "This will ensure that the American people benefit from lower energy prices—particularly at the gas pump—while mitigating the risks of chaos that we have seen over the last generation."

Characterizing the upcoming agreement as "a huge win for the American people," Vance acknowledged that many Americans have endured challenging economic times recently.

On the same day, President Trump confirmed during an interview with The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) that an official announcement sealing the agreement with Iran would be released shortly. He added that either he or Vice President Vance would electronically sign the accord.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif released a statement announcing the breakthrough between the U.S. and Iran, stating that the official signing ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 19 in Switzerland.

"I am pleased to announce that a peace agreement has been reached after intensive negotiations," Prime Minister Sharif said. "Both sides have declared an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon."

He extended his gratitude to international mediators, adding, "I want to express my deepest appreciation to the exceptional leadership of our brotherly nation, Qatar, for their mediation efforts, and thank the visionary leadership of Saudi Arabia and Türkiye for their profound contributions."

Iranian officials confirmed that Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will attend the signing ceremony, according to The New York Times (NYT).
