S-OIL launches immersion cooling test for AI data centers

S-OIL said Tuesday it will conduct a demonstration test of an immersion cooling solution for data centers to address rising power consumption and heat generation driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence.

Under the project, S-OIL will provide its immersion cooling fluid, “S-OIL e-Cooling Solution,” along with technical support. The demonstration will also involve data center infrastructure management firm Onion Software, immersion cooling equipment specialist GST, and server company Wellmade Computer.

GST will supply immersion cooling tanks and heat-generating equipment, while Onion Software will provide the testing infrastructure and operational monitoring system. Wellmade Computer will contribute immersion-cooled servers for testing in a real AI server environment.

The participating companies said they plan to combine their technical expertise to help establish an ecosystem for immersion cooling in data centers.

The test will take place at Onion Software’s Giheung AI data center proof-of-concept center, which features infrastructure and operating conditions similar to those of an actual data center. The site will be used to verify cooling performance and system stability.

S-OIL said the project is aimed at validating the performance and reliability of its immersion cooling fluid in the growing AI data center market while securing practical operational references.

An S-OIL official said, “As AI adoption accelerates, the importance of power efficiency and heat management in data centers is increasing rapidly. Through immersion cooling tests based on real operating environments, we plan to strengthen our competitiveness in the next-generation thermal management market.”
