SK Chemicals has secured European recycling-process compatibility verification for seven of its plastic materials, strengthening its competitiveness in the circular economy market and accelerating its push into the global eco-friendly materials sector.
The company said May 21 that its copolyester product line “Ecotria Claro” and PET material brand “SKYPET” had been recognized by European recycling assessment organization RecyClass for their recyclability within PET recycling processes.
RecyClass is a non-profit industry initiative established to promote a circular economy for plastics in Europe. The organization operates a certification system evaluating whether plastic materials can be effectively reused as recycled feedstock without disrupting existing recycling systems.
With the latest certification, SK Chemicals said it had obtained internationally recognized validation for the recyclability of its broader polyester portfolio, including copolyester and PET materials, as well as both recycled and virgin resin products.
A total of seven products were evaluated.
Five products from the Ecotria Claro copolyester lineup received the “Full compatible” rating, meaning they can be processed within PET recycling systems without restrictions.
Meanwhile, two products from the company’s general-purpose plastic brand SKYPET received the “Limited compatible” rating, indicating they can be recycled under specific processing conditions.
Ahn Jae-hyun, president of SK Chemicals, said the certification officially validates the recyclability of raw materials within the company’s closed-loop circular structure strategy.
“This verification officially recognizes the circular potential of raw materials within the complete recycling system we are building,” Ahn said. “We will continue accumulating technological expertise in recycling while strengthening competitiveness across the entire value chain from raw materials to commercialization, expanding cooperation with European customers and global stakeholders.”
