Samsung SDS is strengthening its collaboration with OpenAI by securing additional reseller rights for “ChatGPT Edu,” aiming to accelerate AI transformation (AX) across educational institutions.
The company announced on April 27 that it has obtained reseller authority for ChatGPT Edu, expanding its customer base to schools, publishers, and other education-related organizations. The service is designed with enhanced security, ensuring that conversations and responses are not used for AI training data.
ChatGPT Edu Targets Universities and Institutions
ChatGPT Edu, powered by the GPT-5 language model, offers a wide range of capabilities, including text generation and comprehension, coding, data analysis, web browsing, document summarization, and customized chatbot creation.
OpenAI developed the service based on its experience with ChatGPT Enterprise deployments at leading global universities such as University of Oxford, University of London, Wharton School, and National University of Singapore.
Samsung SDS plans to expand adoption of generative AI across education and research sectors, targeting institutions seeking to integrate advanced AI capabilities.
The company is currently conducting a proof of concept (PoC) to provide ChatGPT Edu to Korea National Open University, which has approximately 90,000 students, faculty, and staff. Based on the results, both parties will discuss full-scale deployment.
Since signing Korea’s first OpenAI reseller partnership in December last year, Samsung SDS has been offering customized AX transformation strategies. Its “One-Team” system integrates AI consulting, development, operations, cloud, and security into a comprehensive end-to-end framework—from initial strategy design to enterprise-wide deployment and optimization.
Samsung SDS also provides a stable service environment through its proprietary cloud services and GPU-based AI infrastructure, alongside strong security and data management capabilities tailored to institutional needs.
The company has recently secured multiple contracts for ChatGPT Enterprise with major Korean companies, including Nexen Tire, as well as firms across public, financial, manufacturing, retail, and service sectors.
Nexen Tire adopted generative AI as a core productivity tool to enhance knowledge search and document creation, choosing ChatGPT Enterprise via Samsung SDS for its enterprise-grade security and data management features.
Lee Jung-heon, Executive Vice President and head of Strategic Marketing at Samsung SDS, said, “ChatGPT Edu will create a secure environment for using generative AI in education and accelerate user adoption. Samsung SDS will continue to strengthen its role as an AX partner, going beyond a reseller to design, deploy, and support enterprise AI operating systems in collaboration with OpenAI.”
