President Lee Jae-myung will hold a summit with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on April 13 to discuss global issues, including the ongoing Middle East conflict.

According to the presidential office, Tusk will make an official visit to South Korea from April 12 to 13 at Lee’s invitation.

The two leaders are scheduled to hold a summit meeting, issue a joint press statement and attend an official luncheon on April 13.

This will mark the first bilateral visit by a Polish prime minister to South Korea in 27 years and Tusk’s first bilateral trip outside Europe since taking office.

A senior presidential spokesperson said the leaders will broadly discuss ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries across various sectors. As Poland is a key member of both the European Union and NATO, the talks will also cover major geopolitical developments and coordinated responses to global challenges.

The spokesperson noted that the two countries have strengthened mutually beneficial defense cooperation amid growing geopolitical uncertainties. In 2022, South Korea and Poland signed a large-scale defense agreement.

Around 400 South Korean companies are operating in Poland, particularly in electric vehicle batteries, components and materials. Annual exchanges between the two countries’ citizens have reached approximately 100,000 visits, reflecting expanding bilateral ties.

“The visit by Prime Minister Tusk is expected to serve as an important milestone in further developing the bilateral relationship into a more future-oriented and strategic partnership since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1989,” the spokesperson said.
