More than 300 South Korean workers detained at a Hyundai–LG Energy Solution joint battery plant site in Georgia are set to depart on a chartered flight at 2:30 p.m. local time on September 10 (3:30 a.m. KST on September 11), diplomatic sources said.
The workers, who were arrested during a U.S. immigration raid on the HL-GA plant construction site and have since been held in detention, are expected to leave under the procedure of “voluntary departure.” They are scheduled to arrive at Incheon International Airport late on September 11.
The detention facility is about 430 kilometers from Atlanta International Airport, and the group is expected to be transferred there by bus in a journey of roughly five hours.
The return comes six days after the large-scale immigration enforcement operation on September 4, which resulted in the mass detention of South Korean nationals.
It remains unclear whether all detainees have opted for voluntary departure.
